The New Book Club and My Past Week

I'm in the process of switching everything over to the new book club that I will be co-hosting with Alyx and Kim, but I figured I would put up the book vote for October:
Make sure you vote! It ends Monday... and well, I'm personally hoping The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the winner!

Also, sign-up here if you would like email updates!
------------------------------------------------------
So last weekend the King and I played mom and dad. I think we did well, but man, was it the best birth control or what! We even braved Downtown Disney. Yep.... it was interesting.
Then Monday comes and I'm not feeling well. I went into work. Two hours later, I'm stuck at home and I'm super sick. I was code-5-ing like crazy.... that's theme park slang for vomit.

Then Tuesday I started to feel a bit better, but was out of commission.

Wednesday, I decided that I needed to get out of the house, so the King and I decided to use our free Disney tickets to get me out of the sick house.

Its been a crazy week and I am so excited to be able to relax for the next 36 hours!

The Book Club - September, The Book Swap

So I'm sitting on a bench on Hollywood Boulevard....at universal. I'm waiting on my sweet friend to get her ticket for Halloween Horror Nights from me (scariest event ever BTW) and I thought, "Hey, what a better time then now to do write my blog post on the Book Club's Book Swap."

Before I get started, I just wanted to thank Aubrey and MK for all their help in the Book Club. Starting in October, I'm joining forces with Alyx at Everyday is a New Adventure for more Book Club fun! Look for more info o that soon!

Anyhoo, speaking of Alyx, she had me for the Book Swap. She sent me "The Book Thief." It's perfect because when I was little, I thought I was the book thief. I always stole books from my teachers. I know, that's bad and I have synced reformed my ways.

The book is amazing! I haven't finished yet, but its wonderful. It's a unique book as it is told through Death's prospective as the narrator. He tells the tale of a young German girl growing up in Nazi Germany with her foster family and a hidden Jew. Her story is guided along by her stealing books and teaching herself how to read and how the written word shapes her life.

Fair warning (and I got this one from a co-worker before I started reading the book), it is a year gerker. It is emotional and powerful. You know what's going to happen from the beginning (Death is telling the story), but it doesn't stop you from connecting in a personal way.

I HIGHLY recommend this book and I am so glad Alyx got it for me. I had never heard of it before and I probably would have never picked it up for myself.

Thanks to everyone for swapping. And for those of you who didn't get your book, please, re-email me as I have a special gift for you. Want to participate in the Book Club??? Check back tomorrow for more info on the new book club we are starting!

Oh and Ill be posting tonight about my crazy week. See y'all soon!

Being a Parent for a Weekend

The King and I (and our baby fever) are getting a sweet does of reality this weekend. We're being "parents" for a whole weekend. Two sweet kids,  a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl, are our guinea pigs.

Last night was our first night and it wasn't too bad.

Then came today. I had to wake up before the children. Or I thought I was, but I guess the kids knew to wake us up before we could wake them up. 6:30 is a harsh reality wake up time.

Then, making breakfast, getting them dressed and to school took more energy than I thought. After dropping the 4 year old off at school, the 2 year old and I decided to go to the farmer's market to grab some "nanas." There was a cop tailing me the entire time (p.s. I'm in a minivan). Once we pulled into the parking lot of the market, the cop blocked me from getting out. Apparently the tags on the car were expired and thanks to the cutie in my backseat, the cop decided to write us a warning. We also left with a sicker and coloring book.

Hours later, I tried going into Walgreens. I now would like to formally apologize to my mother for all the times that I asked for everything in the store. I get it now.

They are napping now, and that is the only time I have had to shower and to sit down and blog. When they wake up, I'm going to attempt to take them to the Science Center and then to Downtown Disney tonight? Ambitious? I think so.

To all parents everywhere.... Bless you.

(Pictures to come soon!)

The Blue Man Group and Why I'll Be Wearing Two Pairs of Undies Tonight

Last week my general manager offered me and the King two free tickets to see The Blue Man Group. Like I said, for free.
I'd heard mix reviews about the show, but I know they completely redid the entire thing about a year ago.

One word: AMAZEBALLS.

They had this quote up before the show:
We shared a meal with the Blue Men (in their own unique way), made an art project and had a spontaneous dance party. It was an amazing time. The King even laughed out loud. More than once. That NEVER happens.

Here are the pictures I took before. We couldn't take any pictures during. They really stressed that point.

And here are the Blue Men backup band. Totally awesome.
Well, the King and I are off to the employee preview night of Halloween Horror Nights 22. I've had nightmares all week over this. I'll most definitely pee my pants tonight. Over 200 zombie walkers, women ex-con chain saw walkers and tons of haunted houses. Not my cup of tea, but I'll try it once. I have a fool proof plan of how to not get scared tonight. I'll let you know how it plays out tomorrow.
Talk to you then....... if I make it out alive.

A Palm Reading and What My Future Kid Will Look Like

There is this nice old (well not old, but you know, older) Chinese lady at work. I had heard this rumor that she reads palms, so one day, while I was working, I noticed her staring off into the crowd of Muggles at work (P.S. if you are a universal manager and are reading this, I PROMISE we were doing our jobs and that we weren't neglecting our guest service by doing this.... now, read on). This proved to be the perfect time to have her read my palm. She reluctantly agreed.

This is what she told me.

Old Chinese Lady: You don't like to save money, do you?
Me: Ummmmm, no.
Old Chinese Lady: Are you seeing anyone?
Me: No. I'm married.
Old Chinese Lady: Ohhhhhhhhhh.
Me: Yeah.
*Awkward silence.*
Me: What?

Old Chinese Lady: How old are you?
Me: 22.

Old Chinese Lady: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Me: What?

Old Chinese Lady: You married too young.
Me: What????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old Chinese Lady: It's okay I guess.
Me: It better be.

Old Chinese Lady: You will have loooooong successful career.
Me: Here?! Really.

Old Chinese Lady: Loooooonnnnnnng career. Gooooood career.
Me: I guess that's nice.

Old Chinese Lady: YOu have at least one kid.
Me: *dissapointed* just one?

Old Chinese Lady: At LEAST one.
Me: Okay, cool.

Old Chinese Lady: You live long life.
Me: Awesome!

Old Chinese Lady: But have bad health later.
Me: Say what??

Old Chinese Lady: Wayyyy later. But still, bad health.
Me: Psh, yeah right, I'm going to start my epic running career this afternoon.

Basically, I got one thing out of that. I'm having at least one kid. ANd, between you and me, I know what that one kid will look like.

Everyone tells me I look like Hilary Swank. On a daily basis.
I think that the King looks similar to Adrien Brody (but wayyyyyy hotter).
We saw The Amazing Spider Man this weekend. It had Andrew Garfield in it.
Moral of the story:
Me + the King = Andrew Garfield for a son.
BOOM!

Heading off to see The Blue Man Group tonight with the King. Thanks Universal for hooking us up with free tickets!

Oh, and don't forget to vote for The Book Club's October Book to read. And I'm so excited for the link up next Friday for the Book Swap we did last month!

Tootles.

A Little Me Time.

Turn up your speakers, and listen to this song as you read along. Trust me.... it's worth it.
I'm sitting at my local Starbucks (the one that is right down the road and is always pleasantly deserted) listening to The Lumineers sipping on my fall favorite, Chai Tea Latte. Its amazing. It's a long way from feeling like fall in this part of the state, but this is my season: fall. Every year I manage to trick my mind into believing in the magic of fall despite the change in weather.
I start watching the entire series of Gilmore Girls (because if fall was a show, it would be that one), I drink mass amounts of hot cocoa and chai tea, wear sweaters and scarves (even though I will most likely die of heat stroke) and I get excited for the slightest breeze.
Fall is magic. Everything good happens during fall. Halloween is in fall. School starts and school supplies are the center of fall. Fall is when you get closer to those you love. Fall is magic, and I want to spread that magic.
I needed some "me time." I actually grew to hate that term. Let me explain why. I had an ex-boyfriend who, to get out of hanging out with me, would say, "Kaylee, I just need some me time." I won't say his name. I'm nice like that. Correction, he would say, "Kaylee, I need some Blaise time." Whoooooooops. Was that a name drop?? Anyhoo, I grew to hate that phrase because I felt like it was selfish and passive aggressive. Today, I got it though. I had my day off and I babysat all day to make some extra money and man, did I need some "me time." I went home, made dinner for my loving husband (he told me that the chicken was fine. It was totally dry... he sure loves me). He understood when I told him that I NEEDED to go to Starbucks for just an hour or two to blog, listen to great music, drink fall in a glass and spend some time with little 'ole me.

Me time is good. When you need it, you need it.

So, from one gal to another, go out, treat yourself to some "me time," but make sure it has a bit of fall magic in it. Fall cures everything.

A Quick Little Update

I had an epiphany yesterday; I haven't been able to blog because I have been really happy. I really started to get into blogging back when I sat in an office all day doing mundane tasks and then I was in a job where I was miserable AND THEN I was fired, so I was at home all day. Now, I am married, happy and busy with a job I really like. It makes it harder to find time to blog. Don't get me wrong. Almost every day, I think of something fun and awesome I want to share and then I get home (with every intention of blogging) and I start to hang out with my husband (who is the best), and next thing I know it is time for bed. I'm really hoping I can fall back into my obsessive love relationship with blogging.

Anyhoo, this little nugget of love turned the Big One on Saturday. It is nuts how quickly she grew up.
Master Tutiful (our loving nick-name for her) is babbling all the time and almost walking. Plus she's a chunker; quite the change from when she was born a little over 4 pounds. Read more about her here. Happy birthday Tootie.

Also, my Aunt Stephani turned 50 yesterday.

To celebrate, the King and I had a photoshoot. Completely normal.

Does anyone else think that the King could be a GQ model? Seriously. He'll be bringing in the dough while I am scaring people off with my pictures.

Oh, and I just found these pictures of Ryleigh:

The Other Gwyn Wedding; The King has baby fever; Me and my Sarita!!!; Girls' night at The Cheesecake Factory.
I may have lied about my home town; Laurel and I surfing at City Walk; 'Stache day... mine is totally Charlie Chaplin; Blue moon, August 2012.
